Our Methodology
Classical sources first
For each school, we apply its relied-upon position from the standard manuals (for example al-Hidaya, Mukhtasar Khalil, Minhaj al-Talibin, al-Mughni). For Ja'fari, the rulings of Ayatollah al-Sistani.
Then contemporary bodies, in a fixed order
Where no classical text covers an asset (stocks, retirement accounts, crypto), we follow AAOIFI Shari’ah Standard 35 first, then the OIC International Islamic Fiqh Academy, then regional bodies (AMJA, ECFR, FCNA, NZF), then named scholars. A higher body’s ruling always takes precedence.
Differences are shown, not hidden
Where bodies at the same level differ, we apply the position that benefits zakat recipients and record the other views next to the ruling.
Every quote is checked
Quotes are checked against the cited edition before they appear. Summaries are labelled as summaries, and our own notes are kept apart from the source’s words.
Mizaan provides educational guidance based on established fiqh. This is not a fatwa service. For personal rulings, consult a qualified scholar.
